Medusa is a ceramic sculpture, arched above the surface and balanced on its tips. It is meant to be viewed from all sides and can be rotated freely.
I used chamotte clay to add an extra tactility to the surface.
Linen-colored, pinkish-beige and matte, it evokes the sense of a living, breathing body.
In this work, I wanted to capture the beauty of a non-conventional figure type without falling into the usual grotesqueness. The body is tender and sensual, yet contorted in a painful spasm. Their tentacle-like hair curls around their face. The figure calls for self-love and self-acceptance, while the mind, restless and evasive, fixates on everything else but itself.
For "Medusa," it is much easier to feel sympathy for others than for oneself. Behind defeat and stubbornness, behind swaggering and fawning, there is only a lack of love.
Hand-sculpted, unglazed, linen-colored ceramic; versatile in display — it can be positioned either on the back or on the face.
